Benedicte Palko was born in 1972 in Stavanger, Norway, but is now permanently residing in Seville, Spain. Of Norwegian-Hungarian origin, Benedicte Palko belongs to the young generation of talented, Scandinavian musicians.
A frequent soloist and chamber musician, Benedicte Palko is well known for her technical brilliance and beauty of tone and melody. Her repertoire covers a wide range of styles from baroque to contemporary music. She has had several works written specially for her.
Benedicte Palko is very active both as a soloist and demanded chamber musician and has shown herself as a higly appreciated partner for many reknown musicians. It has resulted in tours and concerts with musicians such as the violinists Sakari Tepponen and Elise Baatnes, and the cellist Lluis Claret. She has given recitals, chambermusic concerts and appeared as soloist with orchestra in Scandinavia, Russia, Latvia, Holland, Germany, Spain and USA. She has appeared on numerous international festivals like Bergen International Festival, Norway, the Kronberg Festival in Germany and the International Chamber music Festival in Stavanger, Norway, organized by the renowned Norwegian cellist Truls Mørk. Here she performed with among others the violinists Leila Josefowicz and Alexander Kerr and the cellist Jian Wang.
Benedicte Palko is the artistic leader of the “International Chamber Music Festival – Joaquín Turina” which will take place for the first time in Seville, Spain 17.-23. of September 2007. The official webpage is www.festivalturina.com
Benedicte Palko is also very activ as a teacher and gives masterclasses in different, European countries. In Sevilla she has her own pianoclass, and she is a professor at MUSIKENE, the superior concervatory of the Basque country, in the repertory of violin and piano. www.musikene.net
After several concerts in North-Russia, Benedicte took the initiativ in 2003 to form a Nordic-Russian musical cooperation which takes place in the Kola island. This project is supported by the Nordic Minstery of Culture. Together with violinist Sakari Tepponen she invites musicians from Europe to come to Kola to perform together with musicians from the orchestras in Murmansk, Arcangelsk etc. The project also includes giving masterclasses in the music academy in Murmansk.
For her playing Benedicte Palko has received several prizes and awards. Among others Wilhelm Hansen Fonden, Helge Klaestad legat, SHELL prisen and Harby's legat. While living in Denmark she was also given a Steinway grand piano to her disposition by the Danish "Augustinus Foundation".
Benedicte Palko studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music with prof. Einar Steen-Noekleberg. She continued her studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Prof. Jose Ribera, where she completed diploma and soloist studies with her official soloistdebut in November 1998. A US-Fulbright Foundation scholarship made possible for Benedicte Palko to study with the legendary pianist and teacher Distinguished Prof. György Sebök, ABOUT SEBÖK, for 2 years at Indiana University School of Music Bloomington, USA.Here she completed the highest diploma for soloists: Artist Diploma.
